NBA Draft Update: Mavs Sign UAB's Jordan 'Jelly' Walker to One-Year Contract
As the NBA Draft dust settled on Thursday night, the Dallas Mavericks turned their attention to the undrafted free-agent market. First, they signed TCU guard Mike Miles Jr. to a two-way contract. After that, they signed a guy who had us singing the lyrics to Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" at 1 a.m. CT.
"I don't think you're ready for this jelly..."
That's right, according to multiple reports, UAB's Jordan "Jelly" Walker has agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Mavs. The 5-foot-11 guard played in 33 games last season, averaging 22.3 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 37.8 percent from deep. He won the 2021-22 Conference USA Player of the Year award and made the All-CUSA team two times.
The details of Walker's contract have yet to be revealed, but we have to imagine it's a non-guaranteed deal given all the guards that are ahead of him on Dallas' roster. At the very least, though, Walker figures to add an extra layer of flare to Mavs summer-league team that was already shaping up as a fun one to watch.
After the deal was agreed on, Walker took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the Mavs giving him an opportunity to play in the NBA. "Thank you for the opportunity @dallasmavs. When I say ... GOD is real HE TRULY IS," he tweeted.
