Mavs Trade Talk: Could Dallas Swing Deal for Hield or Ayton?
With training camp less than a week away, the Dallas Mavericks' roster is official set ... for now at least. After a long summer of trade speculation regarding the Mavs' reported pursuit of another veteran starting center, none of those talks have come to fruition.
On today's episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast, we discuss the latest trade rumors involving the Mavs, including their reported interest in acquiring Indiana Pacers sharpshooter and DFW native Buddy Hield, and whether or not they can renegotiate their 'underwhelming' offer the Phoenix Suns for Deandre Ayton.
For Hield, a straight-up swap for Tim Hardaway Jr. and a second-round pick would make the most sense for Dallas, considering Hield is on an expiring $19 million contract and could potentially walk away for nothing in free agency next summer.
As for Ayton, it was previously reported by Marc Stein that the Suns' biggest issue with the Mavs' draft-night offer for the former No. 1 overall pick had to do with taking on JaVale McGee's albatross contract. However, McGee has since been waived, so perhaps the Mavs have a cleaner path to making an Ayton deal happen now ... if they're willing to relinquish some draft capital or a young player like Josh Green or Jaden Hardy.
