Mavs Free Agency Trade: Could Dallas Land Jarrett Allen in 3-Team Deal?

With Dallas still in search for a veteran starting center, Cleveland's Jarrett Allen could be the defensive anchor that the Mavs need.

NBA free agency is here, as your Twitter timeline is now flooded with contract details and trade rumors.

For the Dallas Mavericks, they struck early by re-signing Kyrie Irving, as they now shift their focus to utilizing their Mid-Level Exception and searching the trade market for a starting center.

Reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Jake Fischer, the Cavaliers ‘still hopes’ to work out a sign-and-trade with Miami to land free agent Max Strus.

If Cleveland and Miami do indeed engage in a potential sign-and-trade, the Mavericks could look swoop in as the third team to target center Jarrett Allen.

Proposed trade: Mavericks receive Jarrett Allen. Cavaliers receive Max Strus, JaVale McGee, and a 2025 second-round pick (from Dallas). Heat receive Reggie Bullock, a 2024 second-round pick (from Miami via Golden State), and a 2030 second-round pick (from Dallas)

The Mavs have been actively seeking a veteran center and would love to land a defensive anchor like Allen. The former Texas Longhorn would provide the Mavs with elite rebounding and rim protection alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. He would be a proficient pick-and roll and lob threat as well, while also shedding the remaining two years of McGee’s contract.

As for Cleveland, they acquire the 3-and-D wing they’ve been seeking to start at small forward alongside Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. Though the Cavs have been hesitant to part with Allen over the last year, including Dallas 'reaching out' at this past trade deadline and prior to last month’s draft, maybe landing Strus along with the playoff struggles from the Allen-Mobley duo could be the tipping point for Cleveland.

And for Miami, losing an asset like Strus for nothing is never ideal, so receiving a rotation 3-and-D veteran win in Bullock, along with two future second-round picks could be a viable option. The Heat could very well prefer Tim Hardaway Jr. or Christian Wood in proposed deal, but for THJ, taking back his salary would force Miami to shed additional salary.  With Wood, who has been rumored to be on the 'Heat's radar,’ would have to sign a three-year deal at minimum, which could be too rich for Pat Riley and company.

By landing Allen, Dallas would seem to be the winner of this three-way deal as Cleveland’s willingness to part with their big man could be the deciding factor before the trade is called into the league office.
