Kyrie Irving Speaks on Eagerness to Win Title with Mavs
When the Dallas Mavericks made a blockbuster trade for Kyrie Irving last season, they did so while having big plans for the future. When you have a generational talent like Luka Doncic, who is only 24 years old, you want to surround him with as much high-end talent as possible to maximize your championship odds.
On Tuesday morning, Irving took to Twitter, which he frequently does, and responded to a number of tweets about him. One in particular was a highlight reel of his performance in the 2016 NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The tweet wanted to give Irving his flowers and more credit for helping the Cavs win the championship.
In Irving's response, he's not worried about receiving credit for his past performances, but is more concerned with returning to the NBA Finals to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy once again … hopefully with the Mavs. "I don’t want any credit or validation, I just want to get back to the STAGE and WIN," Irving tweeted.
But, that wasn't the only reply that Irving hit send on. Another tweet was a reply to an image that showcased how each season of Irving's has ended since he's played with LeBron James, to which the Mavs superstar replied "Pin this tweet and see what happens in the next few years."
Clearly, Irving is motivated to right his wrongs and have the last laugh from his numerous critics in the years to come with the Mavericks following signing his three-year, $126 million contract earlier this offseason.
For both the Mavs and Irving, if this is the kind of motivation they get from the eight-time All-Star all season long, Dallas could very well be on their way to reach that big stage again.
