Mavs Star Chemistry: Kyrie 'Loves The Energy' From Luka's Staredown
As the new-look Dallas Mavericks prepare to take the floor together for the 2023-24 NBA season, four-time All-NBA First Teamer Luka Doncic is already in mid-season form with the Slovenian national team tuning up for the FIBA World Cup.
In Wednesday's exhibition between Slovenia and Greece, Doncic made his defender go flying out of the television frame when driving to his left with just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter. This led to Slovenia's team captain staring down the fallen Greece opponent before completing a floater with the foul.
On Thursday morning, Doncic's re-signed co-star Kyrie Irving took to Instagram to show some love to his Dallas running mate's highlight play from Wednesday's contest.
"Stare down type crazy Luka Doncic lol I love the energy," Irving wrote on his IG story.
Coming from Irving, an eight-time All-Star and NBA champion, Doncic has to love seeing that. It's never too early to start working on team chemistry. And for Mavs fans, you absolutely have to love seeing Irving take to his social media to show Doncic some love publicly.
That kind of energy and confidence is something Dallas fans are quite familiar with, as Doncic seems to make those kind of highlight plays on a regular basis. Irving was able to see those plays up close in the latter half of last season, and he's poised to see many more in the coming years.
Despite the 98-91 loss to a Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Greece squad, Doncic's stat line looked to be in prime form, as he finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists on 5-13 from the field while hitting just 9-17 from the free throw line.
With more friendly matches ahead before the FIBA World Cup kicks off later this month, look for more highlight plays from Doncic, as he hopes to lead his country to the title.
