Mavs 'Engaged' in Trade Talks for Raptors' Pascal Siakam, Other Versatile Forwards

With the NBA trade deadline just three weeks away, rumors are starting to pick up steam, and the Dallas Mavericks are right in the middle of it, being linked to Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam, old friend and current Brooklyn Nets' Dorian Finney-Smith and a handful of others.

The Dallas Mavericks have been linked to Toronto Raptors star forward Pascal Siakam for several weeks now, and that continued on Wednesday, as Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer is reporting that Dallas has been one of the teams "engaged in acquiring" the two-time All-Star with just three weeks remaining until the NBA trade deadline.

One interesting thing to note about this particular report, though, is that it links the Mavs to several other versatile forward, including Golden State Warriors' Andrew Wiggins, Charlotte Hornets' P.J. Washington and former Mavs fan favorite and current Brooklyn Nets' Dorian Finney-Smith.

"Dallas has been one of the teams engaged in acquiring Siakam, sources said," Fischer wrote. "The Mavericks continue to be linked to various versatile forwards, from Andrew Wiggins to P.J. Washington to old friend Dorian Finney-Smith, according to league sources."

The Mavs casting a such a wide net in attempts to upgrade their starting power-forward position shows just how aggressive GM Nico Harrison is being while trying to transform his team into a true title contender. The Mavs are already set in the backcourt with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and they have 19-year-old big man Dereck Lively II as their center for the present and the future. However, Dallas still needs a big, versatile forward like the ones mentioned above to minimize weak links in its starting five.

NBA Trade Odds: Mavs Favored to Make Deal for Raptors’ Pascal Siakam

Trade talks can be extremely fluid, and these reports certainly don't insinuate that the Mavs are the favorite to land Siakam or any of the other names listed, but it does show that they're working the phones and doing everything they can to upgrade the roster. And if you're a Mavs fan, that's really all you can ask for.
