Mavs Register 'Consistent' Trade Interest in Wizards' Kyle Kuzma
DALLAS — As the NBA's February 8 trade deadline nears, the Dallas Mavericks remain a team to monitor as a potential buyer. Luka Doncic is producing another historic season, and with his superstar backcourt partner Kyrie Irving being 31, the team is in a win-now window.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavs have "registered consistent trade interest" in Kuzma. Previous trade attempts to acquire Daniel Gafford and Deni Avdija were also mentioned.
"Sources say Dallas has indeed registered consistent trade interest in Kuzma in addition to past trade runs at Wizards center Daniel Gafford and versatile forward Deni Avdija, who, like Green, signed a rookie-scale contract extension ($55 million over four years) in October."
Stein noted young players, including Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Jaden Hardy, and Josh Green (subject to poison pill provision), regarding a potential trade package for the Mavs to acquire Kuzma. The critical context in that line is that players could appeal instead of a firm stance on them. Regardless, Dallas is limited to offering a 2027 selection in a midseason trade regarding first-round draft capital due to top 10 protections through 2025 on their outgoing pick owed to the New York Knicks.
NBA Insiders Reveal Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma Trade Price Mavs Can Afford
Recent reporting suggests Kuzma's trade price may not be as high as initially thought. The initial trade price would require two first-round picks for the Wizards to part with Kuzma, but David Aldridge and Josh Robbins of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that is "somewhat overblown."
“League sources maintain Washington has been holding out for two first-round picks for Kuzma, though team sources indicate that is somewhat overblown. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle,” Aldridge and Robbins wrote.
Kuzma has averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 47 games, shooting 45,7 percent from the floor, 33.1 percent from the perimeter, and 79.9 percent on free throws.
