Rockets Turn Down Mavs’ Trade Offer for Jae’Sean Tate; Details
Although the Dallas Mavericks’ main focus ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline has been upgrading their starting power-forward position, they’re apparently casting an even wider net than that.
According to The Athletic, the Mavs have made a run at Houston Rockets small forward Jae’Sean Tate. However, the Rockets’ asking price is reportedly more than what the Mavs can afford.
“Historically, Houston has valued their players highly. For example, there were conversations with the Dallas Mavericks, one of the teams that have been monitoring Tate’s situation, league sources said, but the Mavericks have only two second-round picks available that were offered. The Rockets, according to those sources, insisted on three,” Kelly Iko wrote.

On the season, Tate is averaging 4.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game while shooting 47.5 percent overall and 30.3 percent from deep. Unless the Mavs have a separate deal lined up to trade away Josh Green, for example, we’re not sure this particular trade pursuit is ideal for Dallas.
