It was just revealed by The Athletic's Shams Charania that the NBA has scheduled the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets on October 24th, which will be opening night of the 2023-24 season. The opening night slate will also included the Golden State Warriors vs. the Phoenix Suns.

The NBA did not waste any time scheduling a Western Conference Finals rematch, as the Nuggets and Lakers will get the first look at each other next season. The Nuggets of course swept the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, and are projected by many to be title favorites again next year.

There were some rumors about the possibility of LeBron James considering retirement following LA's sweep to the Nuggets, but the star forward has since announced that he will be returning for another season. This of course will add intrigue to the opening night rematch, as it will be Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray vs. LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The NBA certainly knows how to maximize viewership, as their opening night slate will feature several different subplots. In addition to the Western Conference Finals rematch, opening night will feature Chris Paul's first game with the Warriors, and also his first game against the Suns since being traded. Add in the viewership of fans tuning in to see Steph Curry, LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, and others, this should be a successful season opener for the league.
