Kevin Durant Makes History in Game 3 vs. Nuggets
Entering Game 3 vs. the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant needed just 7 points to pass Karl Malone for the 7th most points in NBA playoffs history. Durant finished with 39 points on Friday night, and now trails only LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and Tim Duncan in career points in the playoffs.
This is an incredibly impressive feat, as it speaks to Durant's scoring dominance as well as his longevity. Having been one of the game's best scorers for over a decade now, Durant has been dominant everywhere he has been. Winning four scoring titles with the OKC Thunder, including three-straight from 2010-2012, Durant is undoubtedly one of the greatest scorers in NBA history.
What is additionally impressive about Durant's game, is that it has translated well to playoff basketball throughout his career. A two-time Finals MVP with the Golden State Warriors, Durant has proven that his scoring and overall play is not just reserved for the regular season. Overtaking Karl Malone on Friday night for 7th all-time in playoff scoring, Durant once again made history with his scoring.
Following their Game 3 win, the Suns now trail Denver 2-1 in the series. This was a crucial victory for them, as they avoided an insurmountable 0-3 hole. Phoenix will now look to tie the series before heading back to Denver for Game 5.
