With 4,754 career points in the playoffs, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant is on the brink of NBA history entering Game 3 vs. the Denver Nuggets. Just 7 points behind Karl Malone for the 7th most points in NBA playoffs history, Durant will likely pass the former Utah Jazz star in Game 3 vs. Denver.

Once Durant overtakes Malone for 7th all-time in playoff scoring, only LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and and Tim Duncan will sit above him. One of the greatest scorers in NBA history, Durant has an opportunity to move above another one of the game's greatest scorers.

While this bit of NBA history will be meaningful for Durant, he and his team are much more concerned with securing a win in Game 3. Already down 0-2, the Suns cannot afford to lose this game. There is a sense of optimism for Phoenix that even despite dropping Games 1 and 2, the next two games at home are winnable, which would even the series heading back to Denver.

It goes without saying, but the Suns will need Durant to be much better in Game 3 than he was in Game 2 if they are going to secure a win. The Nuggets were the best team in the Western Conference for a reason, and have looked much better than the Suns so far in this series.
