Michael Malone Blasts Media Who Didn't Give Jokic MVP
Nuggets head coach Michael Malone went on an all-time victory lap today during the Denver Nuggets' championship parade. Included in that victory lap, was a jab blasting NBA media members that didn't vote for Nikola Jokic as MVP.
During Malone's speech at the Nuggets' championship parade, he had a message for media members that didn't vote for Nikola Jokic.
"You guys know he stat pads right," Malone joked. "You guys know he didn't win a 3rd in a row MVP because the voters didn't want to vote for him. This guy right here, this guy right here is an amazing player. But I hope you all know him, Natalija, their daughter, their brothers, their family, they're a huge part of Denver."
In all likelihood, media members could have very easily voted for Nikola Jokic to be MVP again this season. However, voter fatigue is most definitely a thing, and it's something that isn't new. Michael Jordan could have won MVP far more than he did, LeBron James could have won it another time, it's just an unfortunate part of the voting process. What should be said though is that Joel Embiid also absolutely deserved the award. If the MVP award included post-season, then it should have gone solely to Jokic, but it doesn't - it's a regular-season award.
Today is a day of celebration for all Denver Nuggets fans and players. Michael Malone might be basking in his victory lap, but he deserves it.
