Indiana Pacers forward Jarace Walker had surgery on his right elbow in mid-July. The operation was done to remove loose bodies.

The expectation is that the rookie will be ready to go by training camp, which begins in under a month for the Pacers. The surgery took place just after Summer League play, so Walker didn't miss much team time.

Walker had been dealing with the injury for a while. He missed a pro day via his agency leading up to the NBA Draft because of it, and the elbow had been bothering him dating back to the NCAA tournament. It was something he needed to address.

Now, for the first time since the operation, Walker discussed the surgery and his rehab. In an interview with Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files, the 20-year old was asked for more details about the elbow injury and recovery process.

"It was the last game of the season versus Miami. I guess I tweaked it, I got a hit," Walker said of his elbow. The game was in the Sweet 16, and Walker was battling with Isaiah Wong, who was on Miami at the time but is now also with the Pacers.

Walker shared that he worked around the pain but could feel the elbow constantly. He pushed through during Summer League play.

It impacted his play, though. The eighth overall pick shot 46.5% from the field in his lone NCAA season and 34.7% from deep. Those aren't eye-popping numbers, but they are acceptable.

During Summer League, Walker shot 34.3% on all shots and 17.9% from deep. While his shot profile was different from his college days, he was still very inaccurate with his shots. The elbow pain contributed.

"It gave me a couple problems at Summer League because I haven't really played in real basketball games [since] then," Walker told Agness of the elbow and pain. The rookie pushed through, averaging 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game across four outings.

"I'm not making any type of excuses, because everybody plays with injuries," he added.

The Baltimore native said his procedure went well. Now, he's able to do some shooting, ball handling, and play one-on-one, he shared on Fieldhouse Files. He hopes to be doing much more, if not everything, by training camp, which opens up in early August.

Walker and Agness also chatted about the rookie's brand partnerships, his family, the Pacers, and more. The full episode can be found here.
