Report: Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton to play for Team USA in FIBA World Cup play
According to a report from Joe Vardon and Shams Charania in The Athletic, Indiana Pacers All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton has committed to join Team USA this NBA offseason.
Haliburton has previous experience with Team USA. He played for the U19 team in the U19 FIBA World Cup back in 2019, and that squad took home the gold medal in Greece. He averaged 7.9 points and 6.9 assists per game during the competition, with his assists number leading all players.
This past season, Haliburton averaged 20.7 points and 10.4 assists per game for the Pacers. He was the heart and soul of Indiana, and he was named an All-Star for the first time of his career.
Other players who reportedly committed to join Team USA this summer include Anthony Edwards, Austin Reaves, Mikal Bridges, Bobby Portis, and Jalen Brunson. There will be 12 players on the final roster.
Team USA will play in the FIBA World Cup, which begins play in August. The red, white, and blue finished seventh at the event in 2019. Pacers center Myles Turner was a part of that squad.
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is the head coach of the USA squad. Erik Spoelstra, Ty Lue, and Mark Few are assistants.
Haliburton and the Pacers hope to reach the postseason next year. This experience with other premier NBA talents will help the point guard improve and get the blue and gold going.
