What draft picks do the Indiana Pacers have in the 2023 NBA Draft?
UPDATE: The Pacers traded two of their 2023 draft picks to the Denver Nuggets. The story below is from before that deal. You can read about the Indiana-Denver swap here.
The 2023 NBA Draft is on Thursday, June 22, and the Indiana Pacers will have five draft picks.
The Pacers are hoping to improve next year and possibly reach the postseason. "Next year, we want to be in the playoffs. We're not going to short change that at all," All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton said in April. The blue and gold will be looking to improve this offseason, and that starts with the NBA Draft.
After the NBA Draft Lottery concluded on Tuesday, it is now known what all five of Indiana's picks will be in the draft next month.
- Seventh overall — The Pacers possess their own first round pick and finished with the seven-worst record in the NBA in 2022-23. They did not move up in the lottery.
- 26th overall — Indiana acquired this pick in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022. Caris LeVert went to Cleveland while Ricky Rubio, a second-round pick (Andrew Nembhard) and this first-round pick went to Indiana.
- 29th overall — The Pacers acquired this pick in a deal with the Boston Celtics last July. The Pacers received Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts, Juwan Morgan, and this draft selection while the Celtics acquired Malcolm Brogdon.
- 32nd overall — This pick was traded to the Pacers in January of 2021 when the blue and gold traded Victor Oladipo to the Houston Rockets. The Rockets sent this pick to Indiana, and many other pieces (including LeVert) went to the blue and gold as well.
- 55th overall — Indiana grabbed this pick in a trade deadline deal back in February. It originally belonged to the Cavaliers, but the Pacers netted the selection in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. Indiana also grabbed two other second-round picks in that deal as well as George Hill and Jordan Nwora.
Indiana is optimistic about the talent they could be able to acquire at seventh overall. But don't expect to see the team make a selection with all five picks.
"We're not going to keep all five picks, but there's just a lot of things we could do. My guess is we'll get a lot of offers for those picks too," Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard said after the NBA Draft Lottery. Trades are likely coming for the blue and gold, who only have three open roster spots.
The draft is 33 days away, and the Pacers will be doing their homework from now until then.
