Jose Alvarado Injures Ankle, Could Miss Pelicans Training Camp: Report
New Orleans, LA - The injury bug continues to hit the New Orleans Pelicans hard, as a recent report reveals guard Jose Alvarado suffered an ankle injury during a workout. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time, although NBA Insider Shams Charania says his availability for training camp is in question according to his sources.
Alvarado was held out of this year's FIBA World Cup for the Puerto Rican National Team as a precaution from his injury during the NBA season. In February, he suffered a stress reaction to his right tibia that caused him to miss the remainder of the season. The goal of holding him out during the FIBA World Cup was to ensure he'd be healthy when training camp started. That is now in jeopardy.
In 61 games played last season, Alvarado averaged 9 points and three assists off the bench. He scored a career-high 38 points in January against the eventual-champion Denver Nuggets. Alvarado was named MVP of the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2023 NBA All-Star weekend event.
This isn't the only injury to befall the Pelicans this offseason. Forward Trey Murphy III suffered a meniscus injury during a workout of his recently. Murphy III is expected to miss 10-12 weeks after successfully having surgery. Training camp kicks off soon for the Pelicans, followed by their first preseason game on October 10.
