Pelicans Hot Entering Summer League's Final Game
New Orleans, LA — The New Orleans Pelicans (3-1) fell short of making the 2023 NBA 2K24 Summer League Tournament but will face the Philadelphia 76ers (1-3) in the event's consolation game. The Sixers enter the match with a 1-3 record despite having the third-highest point-per-game average in Summer League with 100.5 points.
New Orleans has won three-straight games to boast a 3-1 record. Second-year guard Dyson Daniels has stood out throughout the first four contests. Daniels is averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, six assists, and 2.3 steals per game. It was a good sign for the Australian native, who struggled with an injury and confidence issues during his rookie campaign with the Pelicans.
Alongside Daniels has been the stellar play of Dereon Seabron. He leads the team in points (16.8) and rebounds (7). Seabron has shot 64% in the Pelicans' wins but only 16% in their lone loss. His aggressiveness in the second half has closed a couple of wins for the team. Seabron is averaging 10 of his 16 points in the second half.
Philadelphia is giving up the second-most points of all teams in the Summer League (103.3). That should bode well for Pelicans' rookie Jordan Hawkins, who has struggled the last few games. Hawkins averaged nine points on 11% shooting in the final two victories. Playing against a porous defense could allow Hawkins to find his groove again.
Former first-round draft pick Jaden Springer is the Sixers' scoring leader averaging 22.3 points a contest. Springer has spent the past two seasons in the NBA G League. This past season year he was named MVP of the championship game.
NBA TV will televise Sunday's game with a 2:30 PM CT tip-off at COX Pavilion in Las Vegas, NV.
