Zion Williamson Partners With Jefferson Parish Schools For Summer Bridge Program

Williamson is the face of the summer program intended to help students improve their reading skills.

New Orleans, LA- On Friday, New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson announced his partnership with the Summer Bridge program. In conjunction with Jefferson Parish Schools, the program's focus is to meet the needs of those students who need assistance getting ahead with reading. Summer Bridge will provide students with accelerated learning in a camp-like setting.

For his involvement, Zion is pledging $250,000 to the program. At the press conference, Zion commented on how important programs like these were to him personally. "That changed my childhood. I don't know where I'd be without this camp."

Williamson is no stranger to helping with youth improvement in New Orleans. Last June, Zion partnered with the Dryades Street YMCA for an NBA-level youth basketball camp. Williamson and other players from the team met with children and community members. There were also lessons for adults with information on how to register kids for the basketball camp, cryptocurrency, and healthy cooking demonstrations.

The Summer Bridge Program is four weeks long and ends on June 30. Students attending the program will engage in 2.5 hours daily of enrichment activities to explore interests that develop the whole child, such as STEM, art, music, dance, PE, outdoors, reading for enjoyment, creative writing, and project-based learning. More information about the program can be found here.
