Houston Rockets' Amen Thompson Improving Jump Shot with Coach Ben Sullivan
Amen Thompson has had his doubters early in his career, but he is looking to prove them wrong by working on some areas of his game that he needs to improve on with Houston Rockets assistant coach Ben Sullivan.
Sullivan has had the opportunity to gain experience under some great coaches, including one of the greatest coaches is history, Gregg Popovich with the Spurs. He also coached under Mike Budenholzer with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks, winning a championship in 2021.
This past offseason, Sullivan served as the head coach of the Rockets' summer league team, and he took them all the way to the final game where they eventually lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But in that time, Sullivan was able to form a good relationship with Thompson, and they look to improve the top five pick's game this season. In an interview with The Athletic, Thompson talked about the impact that coach Sullivan has already had on his game.
"I put a lot of hours in with Ben Sullivan just on my jump shot and I feel way more confident than I did even going into summer league," Thompson said. "Over time, I know I’ll be a great shooter. Over time, over the years, it’s not like it’s a one-day thing. It’s an over the course of time sort of thing so I know I’ll be great at that. And when I’m great at that, it opens up everything else."
Thompson already being confident that he has shown signs of growth in his shooting game gives Rockets' fans something to be really excited about. That combined with the guidance of Sullivan could allow Thompson to have a big impact right away.
