Rockets Draft Prospect: Victor Wembanyama Not Opposed To Any Team
HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets currently hold the league's worst record coming out of the All-Star break at 13-45. And unless the team goes on a magical run during the final 24 games, the Rockets will be one of four teams in the running for Victor Wembanyama.
Scouts and draft analysts view Wembanyama as the league's best prospect since LeBron James in 2003.
Given his undeniable potential, Wembanyama would be happy to begin his career with the Rockets or any other team who has the potential to land the No. 1 pick during the 2023 NBA Draft in June.
"Wembanyama knows the bottom-dwelling teams that are in contention for him without looking," per ESPN. "Wembanyama says: “There is no wrong team. I am not worried; there is no bad organization. I never tell myself I don’t like to go there."
If Houston ends the 2022-23 campaign with the league's worst record, that will not automatically guarantee the No. 1 overall selection. The NBA has tried to do away with "tanking" in recent years. The decision has led to the four worst teams having a 14 percent chance at the top pick.
Other teams who are currently in line to land Wembanyama are the San Antonio Spurs (14-45), Detroit Pistons (15-44), and Charlotte Hornets (17-43).
As a member of Metropolitans 92, Wembanyama is averaging 22.2 points on 47.2 percent shooting from the field, 28.9 percent from behind the arc, 9.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks.
