Warriors' Steve Kerr to Spurs After Popovich Retirement? Coach Victor Wembanyama?

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr may want to return to the San Antonio Spurs and take over after Gregg Popovich retires.

SAN ANTONIO - I just finished reading the latest book from the great sports writer Sally Jenkins entitled "The Right Call: What Sports Teach Us About Work and Life." Jenkins' 40 years of being around the world's elite athletes and coaches led her to an epiphany.

Through osmosis all of the greatness around her had begun to influence her in her own life. She realized that she had been subliminally influenced to lead a better life of her own simply by being around all these dedicated, hard working, motivated athletes. Whether you're a teacher, coach, ball player, cop, writer, etc. all of us can be influenced by the similar traits of these world class sports people.

One of the most quoted people in the book was Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr. He should be the next coach with the San Antonio Spurs.

It's true Gregg Popovich just signed a five-year extension and despite his 74 years of age there's no reason he can't see all five years. But what if he doesn't?

The decision on Pop's successor will be one of the most important ones in the history of the franchise. Not just because that person will replace Popovich but because the Spurs will need to make sure Victor Wembanyama stays in San Antonio. Kerr has won numerous titles as a player and a coach, including three in San Antonio. Kerr is one of Popovich's best friends. He's socially conscious. He knows how to develop and manage super stars. He's Euro friendly. He's lived overseas and just bought a stake in La Liga soccer club Mallorca.

Who knows how long Kerr will even want to coach? Who knows if he ever would leave the Warriors but with their championship window closing in the next couple of years the timing could be perfect to take the reins in San Antonio.

While I am admittedly way ahead of myself here, it just seems almost a glaring, obvious choice in who should be the top candidate to lead Wemby into his prime once Pop rides off. That's Kerr.
