The San Antonio Spurs were going through the motions in their win Sunday against the rival Dallas Mavericks, but the Minnesota Timberwolves were fighting for playoff positioning against the New Orleans Pelicans ... except not the right kind of fighting.

The Timberwolves, trying to ready for a play-in game, aren't much better, witness this sideline altercation that got perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate Rudy Gobert kicked off the team for at least a day ...

After this Sunday event, its possible the Timberwolves could be without star center Gobert for the team's play-in game as during this afternoon's game against the Pelicans. Gobert got into it with former Spurs fan favorite Kyle Anderson and, yeah, even threw a punch.

Here's a look at the altercation ...

Despite the fight, the Wolves went on to beat the New Orleans Pelicans at home to clinch the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. That means they will be playing the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday for a chance to claim the No. 7 seed and a potential first round rematch with the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies.

Should they lose that game, they will return home to face the winner of the 9/10 game between the Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday.
