NBA Free Agency: Cavaliers' Caris LeVert Fit For Spurs?

The Cleveland Cavaliers' season is over and Caris LeVert is expected to be a free agent.

The San Antonio Spurs have a lot of cards they can play during free agency this summer.

With the third-most cap space in the league, only the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers have more wiggle room to operate with.

While the Spurs can't offer an immediate winning situation to free agents, they can offer money. And even though the Spurs are rebuilding, San Antonio can sign free agents to eventually become trade assets. Among those potential players could be Cleveland Cavaliers wing Caris LeVert.

LeVert, who turns 29 this offseason, averaged 12.1 points per game for the Cavs this season, his lowest mark since his second NBA campaign. He took a backseat this season with the arrival of Donovan Mitchell and was primarily used off the bench.

Should he come to San Antonio, there's a decent opportunity for LeVert to see the court a little more as a starter, at least in the beginning of the season. Then, if the price is right, the Spurs could trade LeVert in order to accrue more future capital.

In recent years, San Antonio has completed this blueprint with players like Josh Richardson and Thaddeus Young. This has also been an option for players like Doug McDermott and Gorgui Dieng, but in their cases, each player has been a positive to have in the locker room. So in the absolute worst case scenario, the Spurs get a veteran voice who can help develop some of the team's younger players towards becoming the pieces necessary for a contending puzzle.
