NBA Trade Idea: Naz Reid to Spurs?

The San Antonio Spurs were interested in signing Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid over the offseason. Perhaps they may look to acquire him in a trade.

The San Antonio Spurs have a robust big man rotation with players they hope can all stand alongside Victor Wembanyama in the frontcourt, but there aren't any longterm options that have surfaced.

In a trade idea posed by Bleacher Report, the Spurs get that in Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid in exchange for Devonte' Graham and a 2025 first-round pick.

"San Antonio figures to slot Wembanyama at the 4 for now to limit the physical wear and tear on his sinewy frame," Bleacher Report writes. "The Spurs might need more reinforcements at the 5 to make that happen, though. Zach Collins has a rocky injury history, and San Antonio can't expect much from the likes of Charles Bassey and Khem Birch. Reid could take on a prominent role in this rotation. He could not only handle the interior anchor duties on defense, but he'd also help the offense as a stretch center who can also finish around (and above) the rim."

It's very unlikely for this trade to happen, especially considering the fact that Minnesota just awarded Reid with a three-year extension worth nearly $42 million.

The trade was likely proposed due to the Spurs' reported interest in Reid over the summer.

"The Spurs, league sources say, are another Texas team that would have had interest in Reid had he made it to free agency, with San Antonio known to be searching for a proven center who can ease the frontcourt burden that it places on prized rookie Victor Wembanyama in his first NBA season," NBA insider Marc Stein wrote. "It's believed, though, that the Spurs were likely to offer Reid only a one-year contract to fill that role."

The Spurs will likely roll with who they currently have, but this mock deal expresses the idea that the center spot in San Antonio is far from concrete.
