Spurs Aren't 'Boring,' Especially With Victor Wembanyama
SAN ANTONIO - I have maintained for years that if the exact same head coach and roster of players had done all this in New York or Los Angeles or Miami there would be a statue of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich outside Madison Square Garden.
Had it been done in LA a freeway perhaps would be named after Tim Duncan. I can see the headline now: "Gov. Gavin Newsom renames the 405 to The 21."
The Spurs are not boring.
Manu Ginobili is one of the flashiest, most break neck on court players of his generation. Tony Parker was a sports car on the floor and we'll all be reminded of that in the coming days through the numerous highlights that will run ahead of his Hall of Fame induction next month. He was once married to a Hollywood starlet for goodness sake.
The 2014 Spurs who rolled to the NBA championship carried the "beautiful game" moniker with them wherever they went.
It is unfortunate that in 2023 we still have to endure people like CBS Sports' Zach Aldridge make fools of themselves on major networks with regard to the Spurs and the city in which they play. I consider myself lucky to have been a fly on their wall for the last 15 years. Vive le France and vive le Victor Wembanyama. May more glory come to the franchise in silver and black and continue to make people eat their words when the Spurs are called "boring."
