San Antonio Spurs 'Built to Win for Long, Long Time,' Says Analyst
Looking at the San Antonio Spurs roster, it's easy to see Victor Wembanyama while forgetting about the rest of the roster. Obviously, the No. 1 pick would get the most attention, but players such as Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan.
"I'm excited to see how this clicks now that eyeballs will be on the Spurs," The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor said. "People are gonna say, 'oh, it's not just Wemby there.' They have a heck of a lot of talent. Good things are happening in SA, and they're built to win for a long, long, long time."
Behind the leadership of head coach Gregg Popovich, a young and talented roster in San Antonio is due for a big jump this season.
The aforementioned Johnson has improved every season since his debut back in 2019-2020. Averaging just a mere 9.1 points per game that season, the forward now puts up an improved 22.0 points per game coming into his fifth NBA season. Johnson's interior toughness and defensive energy make him a good compliment to the touch and skillfulness of Wembanyama.
Behind Johnson sits Devin Vassell, who entered the league in 2020-2021. The soon-to-be-fourth-year player has made drastic improvements in all aspects of his game since his rookie season, now averaging a stellar 18.5 points per game as the second option behind Johnson.
Besides Vassell and Johnson, there are plenty of other young, talented players that have the potential to make the Spurs organization great once again. Sochan, Tre Jones, Malaki Branham, and even two-way player Dominick Barlow all have the rare chance to make their team a contender again.
