Spurs Ex Chimezie Metu Signs With Pistons - Details
A former San Antonio Spurs draft pick has found himself on a new team once again.
The Detroit Pistons are signing forward Chimezie Metu to a 10-day contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Metu, who turns 27 on Friday, was a second-round pick by the Spurs in the 2018 NBA Draft. He played just two seasons in San Antonio, appearing in 47 games and making zero starts while averaging 2.3 points per game.
He signed with the Sacramento Kings in 2020 and carved out a solid role during three seasons with the team. Metu played in 162 games and made 26 starts with the Kings while averaging a career-best 6.7 points and four rebounds per contest.
However, the best performance of Metu’s career came with the Phoenix Suns on Christmas Day earlier this season. He posted a career-best 23 points and 19 rebounds in a holiday loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Phoenix traded Metu to the Memphis Grizzlies prior to the deadline last month, but was waived by the Grizzlies a day later.
Spurs Fall Short to End Season Series With Mavericks
Should Metu sign a fully-guaranteed deal with Detroit, he could appear against the team that drafted him in the regular-season finale when the Pistons visit San Antonio on Sunday, April 14.
