In this story:

San Antonio Spurs fans are salivating over the potential partnership of future No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama and longtime head coach Gregg Popovich. However, there's two problems with that ... neither of them have a contract with the Spurs.

Of course, Wembanyama will certainly sign his rookie deal once the Spurs draft him next month ... but what about Popovich? The longtime coach had his contract expire at the end of the season and currently doesn't have a new deal.

Last month, when asked if he would retire by a media member, he called the question "inappropriate."

While Popovich, 74, has been mum about his future, he mentioned earlier in the season that he was still having "fun" coaching the team despite its losing record. Now, with Wembanyama in the fold, one can only imagine how much more fun Popovich would have coaching the team.

Considering Popovich is the winningest coach in NBA history, he's earned somewhat of a right to retain some privacy in regards to his future. As long as the Spurs and Popovich are on the same page, that's what matters. San Antonio hasn't made any public remarks about looking for a new coach, which could lead people to believe that Pop will be back on the bench for his 28th season in San Antonio ... but if he isn't signed soon, it may be time to start interviewing some candidates.
