San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich Won't Ever 'Talk Bad' on Victor Wembanyama
Following the San Antonio Spurs' win to the Miami Heat Friday night, head coach Gregg Popovich was asked about his new talented big man Victor Wembanyama.
"Reporter: “We saw Victor Wembanyama do a lot of things in attack and defense. Where are his flaws?”
Popovich: “Where are what?”
Reporter: “The flaws in his game.”
Popovich: “I don't talk bad about my players.”
Direct and straight to the point, just like he always is, Popovich was quick to defend his rookie star as soon as anything negative came up about him.
This development comes as a good sign for Spurs fans, who were eager to see the relationship between Popovich and Wembanyama, with Popovich's history in training European big men. The center seems to be settling in nicely with his new team and environment.
As for the flaws in Wembanyama's game, they seem to be few and far between. He scored 23 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, and blocked three shots. Shooting 10-15 from the field in his 23 minutes, Wemby looked like the player he was drafted to be, leading the Spurs to a 120-104 win over the Jamaal Cain-led Heat.
The 7-4 unicorn found his shots from everywhere on the court in the performance, knocking in a three-pointer to go along with that statline, running the offense at some points as the primary ball handler.
The relationship between him and Popovich seems to be off to a good start, which is a good sign for a team that has championship aspirations in the near future.
