The San Antonio Spurs are days away from officially making Victor Wembanyama the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.

From there, it will be a quick turnaround with the Spurs playing in the California Classic from July 3-5 and the subsequent Las Vegas Summer League.

NBA insider Marc Stein says that the team hopes that Wembanyama will play at some point in July.

"The Spurs are hopeful, I'm told, that Victor Wembanyama will indeed be a
participant to some degree in summer league play in Las Vegas," NBA insider Marc Stein wrote.

Wembanyama's case is very different from most of his rookie counterparts. With the G League and college season ending in March and April, Wembanyama has been playing up until yesterday when his French team, Metropolitans 92, went on a run to its league's championship. However, the run ended unsuccessfully in a sweep to top-ranked Monaco.

Wembanyama doesn't have much to prove in any summer league and isn't rusty like many of the collegiate players coming out of the draft. The last thing the Spurs would want is for Wembanyama to suffer an injury that switches up his rehab process for the summer and delays his real San Antonio debut, when the games begin to count.

However, if the Spurs had it their way, their No. 1 pick would make his debut in the coming weeks.
