San Antonio Spurs Media Day: Starting Lineup Revealed?
It might not be San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan's place to make the call on the Silver & Black's starting lineup this season, but luckily for him, he doesn't have to.
A million questions surrounding who the Spurs will trot out onto the court for the first minutes of their season have circulated social media — and regular media — with no true conclusion being reached.
Will Victor Wembanyama start at the 4? The 5? Does Zach Collins still have a place in San Antonio? Is Tre Jones good enough to be a starting point guard in the NBA?
All valid questions, all without answers.
Popovich likely wants to keep it that way, however, as he barely budged on the expected role of his face-of-the-franchise, stating he "had no idea" how he was planning to use Wembanyama in-game. Is that accurate? Probably not.
But it does reveal how he feels about pre-announcing coaching decisions.
It goes without saying that the Spurs have young talent to work with this season. And given their youth, multiple lineups will be toyed with as each player learns and develops throughout the year, but early indications suggest that there could be a starting lineup already decided ... at least for opening night.
Zach Collins, Victor Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell all took center stage during San Antonio's annual media day, addressing everything from hair color to playing under Popovich and even the shock factor that "The Extraterrestrial" gives them in practice.
That could very well be the Spurs' debut starting lineup with Wembanyama, but things are expected to be fluid as the season goes along.
