In this story:

The San Antonio Spurs (1-2) travel to sunny Arizona to take on Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns (2-1) tonight at 10:00 pm. For East Coast fans, they’ll be able to catch the game on TNT after all the kids dressed as Marvel characters have gone to bed. For the rest of the country, watching Victor Wembanyama clash with Durant will have to happen between handing out candy.

Usually, we give three bets. Two are our predictions to hit, and the last one is one that’s not worth touching given the risks and rewards. However, with Halloween being all about the scary and frightening, today we’re leaning into the spirit of the holiday and positing only risky bets, so keep that in mind.

Be responsible. Sports are fun, and betting on games is only supposed to make it more fun.

The Spurs got blown out by the Clippers on Sunday, and the Suns are arguably more experienced and star-studded, despite being hastily put together over the summer. Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker are all some of the best scorers in the league, so the Spurs will have their hands full. Here are the lines, powered by SI Sportsbook.

Often compared to Durant, Wembanyama takes him on for the first time tonight.

The Lines

Point Spread: Suns (-7.5)/Spurs (+7.5)

Money Line: Suns (-300)/Spurs (+225)

Over/Under: 225.5

Our Picks: Spooky Edition

No-Defense Pick: Parlay Spurs to win, Vassell OVER 18 points, Johnson OVER 16 points, Durant OVER 30 points (+1100)

I’ve never suggested a parlay before, ever. But if both teams throw defense out the window, the only crazy part of this pick is the Spurs winning. Durant is still in fine form, and asking him to score 30 against the Spurs is not a tall order. Keldon Johnson had a tough outing against the Clippers, going 1/9 from the floor, but asking him and Vassell to hit shots is quite literally their job, he just didn’t deliver on Sunday.

Homer Pick: Spurs +12.5, UNDER 230.5 total points, Vassell OVER 20+ points, Wembanyama OVER 6+ rebounds (+725)

If you’re a Spurs fan, this is the happiest pick for you. All San Antonio has to do is keep their head up and not get blown out in embarrassing fashion two games in a row. Wemby has fallen short of six boards twice, but his average through three games is over seven. Vassell is expected to be the Spurs’ highest scorer this year and has been hovering above the 20-point mark through three games, despite a 14-point dud in his last outing.

No Fun Pick: Spurs to win (+225)

The fact that the odds are not +300 for the Spurs to win should tell fans not to write this game off. Yes, the spread of 7.5 is daunting, but clearly, the odds writers have some faith in San Antonio. In order for this to happen, the Spurs will have to actually make shots, which proved tough against the Clippers. In addition to offensive production, Wembanyama, Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan will have to play solid defense, with ideally two of them shutting down either Beal, Booker, or Durant.

The Spurs can allow one of Phoenix’s stars to burn them, but if multiple players catch fire, we can write the Spurs off. Still, the relatively high odds of +225 make this bet worth looking at.

As always, I am not suggesting that you light your money on fire with all these bets, but if you want to make the game more interesting and end Halloween with something that gets your heart rate up, look no further.
