San Antonio Spurs, Reggie Bullock Agree to Buyout; What's Next?
Not every partnership always works out. … After just 80 days of being a member of the San Antonio Spurs, veteran small forward Reggie Bullock is moving on to the next. Per The Athletic's Shams Charania, Bullock and the Spurs reached a contract buyout Saturday, allowing Bullock to enter free agency.
Bullock has been around high-performing teams throughout his 10-year career, though most recently with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. What he brings to any team is talent without needing the ball, as he can hit his spots and hit a deep-ball when needed.
With the move, however, Bullock won't be doing so for coach Gregg Popovich and company, but rather with contending teams, which are expected to "pursue him."
Last season, Bullock averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists on 41 percent shooting from the field, making him a veteran asset to a lot of teams — especially with the locker room presence he'd bring having as much experience as he does.
Bullock's buyout in San Antonio isn't the most shocking thing, however. As a part of the Grant Williams trade, the Spurs also acquired the Mavs' unprotected first-round pick in 2030, which could end up being more valuable down the line depending on where Dallas falls in the loaded Western Conference.
Plus, San Antonio now faces less of a roster crunch. With Bullock's release, San Antonio now sits just one spot higher than the maximum amount prior to training camp. Which player ends up being released is yet to be determined, however.
Either way, Bullock added a seventh team to his career resume, even if he didn't play a game for the Spurs, and now will move on to his eighth — ideally in the coming days leading up to the start of this NBA season.
