De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk Lead Kings in Win Over Spurs
In part of a lengthy West Coast road trip, the San Antonio Spurs fell short in their latest stop with a 130-112 loss to the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings have emerged as the hottest team in the Western Conference after winning a fifth consecutive game. In their previous outing, Sacramento scored 153 points against the Brooklyn Nets, which was the first time an NBA team reached the 150-point threshold this season.
De'Aaron Fox has taken his game to another level early this season and put it on display against the Spurs — finishing with 28 points and eight assists. He achieved impressive volume with great efficiency as he didn't record a turnover and shot 11-15 from the floor, 2-3 from 3-point range, and 4-4 on free throws in his 32 minutes of action.
Malik Monk's 26 points off the bench proved to be instrumental for the Kings, too. Domantas Sabonis (16), Harrison Barnes (16), Trey Lyles (14), and Chimezie Metu (10) also scored in double-figures for Sacramento.
After Josh Richardson connected with Charles Bassey for an alley-oop at the 2:29 mark of the third quarter, the Spurs tied it up at 80-80. From that point on, the Kings had outscored them 50-32 with a 41-point fourth quarter proving to be a difference-maker.
The main bright spot for the Spurs in this game was Devin Vassell. He scored a game-high 29 points while shooting 11-19 overall and 4-9 from deep. With Keldon Johnson sidelined, he proved to be instrumental as the focal point of San Antonio's perimeter attack.
The Spurs fall to 6-10 on the season after having gotten off to a 5-2 start. Injuries have plagued San Antonio since their early success and has continued to do so with Johnson being sidelined in this game.
Next on the schedule for the Spurs is a matchup against the LA Clippers on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena.
