The San Antonio Spurs are looking to spread their wings and appeal to a broader group of fans.

That was evident with this year's games in Mexico City and Austin ... and according to the San Antonio Express-News, the Spurs are looking to repeat their neutral site games again next season.

“We live here in this region, all the way from Mexico all the way to up here, and we’d like to spread that experience we’ve had with the Spurs to another area, and to do that we have to make the effort to be seen and to get up here and to play some games," Gregg Popovich said. "And I think we will do that every year now. I don’t think, I know, and this is the start of it.”

Bexar County officials are set to meet Tuesday and vote on the proposal to play the games outside of San Antonio and the Spurs hope that it gets approved.

“Years ago, we started thinking about how we could better integrate into the Austin market,” Spurs Sports & Entertainment's SVP of Strategic Growth Brandon James said. “The corridor between San Antonio, Austin and Mexico is growing super fast. It’s not a matter of if, but when it becomes a mega-region, and we want to be the tip of the spear [to expand into it].

“As a sports team, we’re uniquely situated to bring together communities that otherwise wouldn’t come together,” he added. “We’re super excited at that opportunity.”

Opening the door to more fans to grow an attachment towards the Spurs is an opportunity the organization really enjoyed this past season ... and they hope it now can become an annual tradition.
