OFFICIAL: Spurs Sign Texas Longhorns' Sir'Jabari Rice to Two-Way Contract
The San Antonio Spurs rookie class in 2023 is headlined by Victor Wembanyama, but the team added another player to the mix officially on Wednesday.
The Spurs announced in a press release that they have signed former Texas Longhorns guard Sir'Jabari Rice to a two-way contract.
Should he impress the team at the NBA Summer League, he could get the chance to suit up just a short drive away from where he played college ball last season.
Rice, the 2022 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year, helped lead a talented Longhorns squad to the Elite Eight this past season. He averaged 13 points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists while shooting an efficient 46.4 percent from the field.
During his only year in Austin, he was Texas' second-leading scorer despite starting just three games and led the Longhorns in scoring in 11 games. He was arguably the team's best player during certain stretches of the season and was a major reason the Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament title.
Spurs fans might quickly be drawn to his elite shot-fake and timely decision-making when he potentially suits up alongside Wembanyama at the Summer League.
Rice didn't play for the team in their California Classic opener on Monday, but there is potential for him to make his San Antonio debut either tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers or in Las Vegas.
