The San Antonio Spurs face an uncertain future at the point guard position.

With Tre Jones only signed on for two more years, the Spurs don't appear to have someone who can emerge towards becoming a franchise point guard.

Franchise point guards don't grow on trees and they aren't easy to find, but perhaps the Spurs can take a risk on somebody.

In a trade proposed by Bleacher Report, the Spurs would send Doug McDermott to the Chicago Bulls for Lonzo Ball and a 2030 second-round pick.

This trade would benefit the Spurs more in getting some value out of McDermott's expiring contract. Ball has two years left and won't play in the upcoming season due to injury.

However, if Ball were to return to full health, he would be a quality fit in the Spurs backcourt rotation for the 2024-25 season.

There's a good chance the Spurs will end up with a high pick for the 2024 draft and they will take someone who could emerge as their point guard of the future to pair with Victor Wembanyama, but having a veteran like Ball who could still be a strong defender post-injury could help a young San Antonio team.

Of course, there's no guarantee Ball will become the same player he was before he got hurt, let alone play in the NBA again. However, by getting that extra second-round pick and not letting McDermott walk away for nothing is enough for the Spurs to be serious about making a deal like this.
