Spurs, Victor Wembanyama Complete 'Due Diligence' Health Check in France

If you asked anybody in San Antonio what their biggest fear about drafting 7-4 center Victor Wembanyama was, chances are they'd state the obvious:

"I'm worried that he'll be a bust."

It's the single greatest worry that almost every San Antonio Spurs fan has, along with coaches, trainers and even other players. It could change the way the Spurs franchise goes over the next few years, especially since the young team is set to put all of their chips on the table for the French rookie.

The first way the Spurs can avoid turning that worry into a reality is by maintaining his health. Wembanyama is already known to be "active" in his own health, which bodes well for the hopeful future star, but even with his own efforts, he'll likely be visiting with the team doctors numerous times throughout the season to ensure his durability.

And fans can consider today the "first of many" meetings, as the Spurs' doctors took a visit to France to meet with the center and do their "due diligence."

"The Spurs dispatched their medical staff to France last week to conduct their due diligence," ESPN said. "With that successfully out of the way, everything looks on track for him to be the No. 1 pick and start restoring the proud franchise to relevance."

The visit should be a reason to be excited about Wembanyama's future in San Antonio. The center's health has been steady during his time with Metropolitans 92, as he didn't miss a game of the regular season en route to the LNB Pro A Finals.

And if Wembanyama and the Spurs can keep him healthy in a similar way to France and Guillaume Alquier, he should be set to bring instant success to San Antonio next season.

The 2023 NBA Draft is set for Thursday, June 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Coverage on ESPN will begin at 7 p.m. CST.
