It's officially that time of the NBA season where trade rumors and speculation run rampant with the deadline less than one month away. The San Antonio Spurs have multiple needs, but one of them is upgraded guard play next to rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.

Although Tre Jones being inserted into the Spurs' starting lineup has helped San Antonio take a step forward – the team has now won two consecutive games for just the second time this season – more backcourt depth wouldn't hurt. Could a trade for Los Angeles Lakers' D'Angelo Russell be an answer?

According to Bovada, the Spurs have the fourth-best odds (+350) of landing Russell in a trade with the Lakers with the Feb. 8 deadline just three weeks away. The Chicago Bulls have the best odds (+125), the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat are tied for the second-best odds (+300) and the Detroit Pistons have the third-best odds (+325) to trade for Russell.

The Spurs have reportedly been "listening" to trade offers for Cedi Osman and Doug McDermott, and wouldn't you know it ... those two players for Russell works financially if we're putting together hypothetical trade packages. If the Spurs and Lakers do decide to discuss a deal, it can't happen until after Jan. 15 since Russell re-signed a two-year, $35 million deal last summer.

Wembanyama OUT vs. Bulls; Why?

Through 35 games played this season, Russell is averaging 14.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.1 assists while shooting 46.4 percent overall, including 38.5 percent on 3s. Stay tuned to Inside The Spurs in the coming days and weeks as more information rolls in.
