The San Antonio Spurs will soon have a decision to make on veteran Doug McDermott.

While he provides a veteran presence needed on a young team, he also could be one of the Spurs' best trade chips during the season.

"For his career, McDermott is a 41.0 percent three-point shooter," Bleacher Report writes. "Even if he doesn't provide much beyond that, that kind of shooting could interest some win-now teams."

Last season, McDermott averaged 10.2 points and 2.2 rebounds, but retained his 40 percent shooting mark from behind the arc — his on-court specialty — to provide instant offense when the Spurs needed it.

McDermott also seems to enjoy playing the role as the team's veteran.

"It feels great to be the old guy," McDermott said. "I'm just trying my best to be a good leader."

That being said, McDermott is set to hit the free agent market this summer and the Spurs will want to extract as much value as possible before he has a chance to sign with another team.

There's a chance that McDermott may choose to re-sign with San Antonio and help build a winner alongside Victor Wembanyama, but the Spurs can't expect to bring him back and allow younger players who could use the playing time to develop as well.

Either as a veteran leader or a trade chip, McDermott holds value and the Spurs must decide which path they want to go.

McDermott and the Spurs are back in action tomorrow night against the Houston Rockets. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
