Suns Center Bismack Biyombo Named as Celtics Trade Target
Phoenix Suns center Bismack Biyombo hasn't been with the organization for years, but his personality (on and off the court) mixed with his presence in the paint has earned him massive respect in his short time in the Valley.
So when the Suns brought Biyombo back in free agency (letting JaVale McGee walk to Dallas), plenty inside and outside the organization were happy to see his stint continue.
Although his role was minor in filling in for Deandre Ayton, Biyombo played well, averaging 5.8 points/4.6 rebounds in 36 games last season.
That showed not just Phoenix, but the rest of the league what the soon to be 30-year-old center could do.
You can count the Boston Celtics as one of those teams interested in what he may bring to their lineup, according to one anonymous NBA coach.
Suns Center Bismack Biyombo Named as Celtics Trade Target
Heavy.com's Sean Deveney spoke to one coach in the western conference who noted Biyombo was a potential trade target for the Celtics, offering this to say:
“He is the kind of find that the Celtics could really use in that hole, a guy who blocks some shots, plays good defense and holds down the fort off the bench,” the coach told Deveney. “If Phoenix has some injuries and is really disappointing, maybe he winds up on the market but they really like what he did for them last year.”
The coach then admitted the probability of Biyombo being dealt was fairly low.
“Biyombo did exactly what they wanted from him last year, and that was the reason they let (JaVale) McGee go. They kept Ayton so you can expect they’ll go into the year with Biyombo as their No. 2 center—so I’d be really surprised if they go out and look to trade him,” he said.
As mentioned by the coach, things would likely have to go pretty sideways in order for Biyombo to be on the trading block, although there certainly appears to be high grades for him across the league.
