Who Could Rise on Suns Roster?

The Phoenix Suns are littered with stars - but who is somebody young that can explode on the scene?

In this story:

The Phoenix Suns don't tout any up-and-coming young players. In fact, their goal was to acquire players on the other end of the spectrum in terms of refined skill and experience.

It's championship or bust here in the desert after the Suns pushed their chips to the middle of the table and exchanged future assets for win-now players such as Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal.

Draft picks? Who needs them if you're planning a parade. Luxury tax? Mat Ishbia has more money than he knows what to do with.

As a result of their roster construction, the Suns don't exactly roster any young players that draw attention on the national level. In Bleacher Report's recent article going through each team's highest-ceiling player, Deandre Ayton made the cut thanks to no "young talent" in Phoenix.

"At the time of this writing, the Phoenix Suns have only one player born in the 2000s. Toumani Camara was a second-round pick in the last draft and is not projected to factor much.

"So we are going to cheat the rules here and name Deandre Ayton as the Suns' most important 'young prospect.' The main reason he is on this list is because he is likely Phoenix's lone asset come the trade deadline. If the front office feels there are still a lot of holes on the roster, it can try to turn Ayton into two or three players to fill the holes.

"This does not mean Ayton is not going to be an important piece for the Suns on the floor. He will be relied on to be a force in the paint. His shot-blocking and rebounding abilities are going to be critical."

Ayton is young, sure. He's 25 but already has years of experience in the league. There's certainly a handful of players on the roster that are both young and could develop nicely in the future:

Who Has Highest Ceiling on Suns Roster?

Who holds the title for the highest ceiling on the Phoenix Suns? Multiple players including Bol Bol, Jordan Goodwin and Toumani Camara all fit the bill.

Bol Bol is seen as a raw prospect with incredible upside:

"He's such a unique player that his ceiling isn't something concrete. If a 7-3 player can become an above average spot up shooter and/or improve defensively, that sounds like the makings of an All-Star," said Jeremy Brener of The Magic Insider.

As for Camara, apparently the rookie impressed during Summer League play. One member of Phoenix's staff told Spotrac's Keith Smith: “Toumani (Camara) might be more ready to play than we thought. Once that jumper comes around, we feel like we’ve got a steal on our hands."

Guard Jordan Goodwin - who was also acquired in the trade with Bradley Beal - is set to run backup duties this season, and there appears to be a reason Wizards fans were upset when he too departed the organization.

"Goodwin is a strong point-of-attack defender, and may remind some Suns fans of the relentless energy Jevon Carter brought in his short time in the Valley. Sure, Goodwin's offensive game is fairly raw, but everything coming from the organization is that Goodwin has thoroughly impressed thus far," wrote our own Kevin Hicks

"He is poised to be the backup point guard for the Suns, and a surprise performance on the offensive end could be in the cards for the former Saint Louis Billiken."

All the aforementioned players are 24 or younger currently.
