What to Expect From Suns-Pistons Tonight
Thanksgiving may be over but Phoenix Suns basketball is back on!
The Suns are set to face off against the Detroit Pistons tonight at 7 PM MST at the Footprint Center.
Similar to last season, the Suns are leading the pack as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 11-6.
After a heated game with their division rivals the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday where Patrick Beverley pushed Deandre Ayton to the ground resulting in a massive altercation between the two teams, the Suns are riding high emotionally.
While tempers shouldn’t flare against the Pistons, the Suns are coming off their most emotional game of the season which should light a fire under all their players going into tonight's matchup.
The Suns are currently on a two game winning streak and are deservingly the favorites on SI Sportsbook. However, the Pistons should not be taken lightly by the red hot Suns.
Despite their 5-15 record, the Pistons are on a two-game winning streak of their own defeating the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday and the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Both the Nuggets and Jazz are top five in the Western Conference standings which begs the question: Will they continue their West Coast dominance?
The Pistons are riddled with injuries as they will be missing Isaiah Stewart, Cade Cunningham and Shaddiq Bey. Also Jaden Ivey, Killian Hayes and Hamidou Diallo are all questionable for tonight's game.
If all six of these players are unable to go tonight, it should allow Devin Booker and the rest of the Suns offense to take advantage of an inexperienced Pistons team.
Booker has scored over 20 points in each of the past five games for the Suns and should continue this trend against the Pistons who rank 28th in the NBA in points allowed.
The Suns usually handle their business at home this season, showing off with an impressive 9-1 record at the Footprint Center whereas the Pistons currently are the worst team in the league on the road holding an abysmal 2-10 record.
An interesting matchup going into tonight's game is the battle between Ayton and Marvin Bagley III. The two centers were drafted first and second overall in the first round at the 2018 NBA draft.
Over the past year Ayton has boosted his game to a new level showing why the Suns were right to pick him with the first overall pick while Bagley III did not live up to the hype with the Sacramento Kings and now has a huge chip on his shoulder as he tries to revive his career with the Pistons.
The odds may be in the Suns' favor tonight but we should be in for a good one in the Valley.
