Updated Odds on Deandre Ayton's Next Team
The great sportsbooks know all, and that even boils down to what will happen with Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton.
That first sentence is filled with sarcasm, although you can't deny with serious money to be made (or lost), sportsbooks and betting sites alike need to have a closer pulse to happenings than the average bettor.
It's been two weeks since Ayton has been able to enter restricted free agency, yet his (and plenty others) future moves are somewhat on hold thanks to the Kevin Durant saga in Brooklyn.
As much as we don't want to admit it, many teams across the league are waiting to see how certain dominoes fall before they carry on with their business.
However, with Ayton in search of a max deal, there's frankly only a handful of teams that can offer him that money.
The Suns obviously are the first team, and would be able to offer him more money than any outside team in the league. A sign-and-trade is a likely scenario if Phoenix chooses not to bring him back.
All signs point towards the Indiana Pacers as Ayton's new team for the 2022-23 season.
"We believe that the Indiana Pacers are very close to giving Deandre Ayton an offer sheet or executing a sign-and-trade," said ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
"The Pacers had to do some business over the weekend and complete the Malcolm Brogdon trade, that is now on the verge of happening and has opened enough cap space to almost give Deandre Ayton the max contract he is looking for … The whole league is waiting to see."
DraftKings' newest odds on where Ayton will land mirror those reports.
Updated Odds on Deandre Ayton's Next Team
Indiana Pacers (-175)
Phoenix Suns (+190)
Brooklyn Nets (+400)
Detroit Pistons (+800)
San Antonio Spurs (+900)
It feels as if the Ayton news could drop any day now, although many are cautious with how quiet things have been around Phoenix's center. Is he helping the Suns facilitate a sign-and-trade with Indiana? Are the Pacers willing to give him an offer sheet and force Phoenix's hand?
Those scenarios will play out in due time. However you cut it, Ayton's favored to pack his bags for Indiana soon.
