Suns Begin to Fill Summer League Roster
Despite having no draft picks, the Phoenix Suns still intend on utilizing the upcoming NBA Summer League stint as best as they can.
"It's critical to get the incoming talent, the college players and the young drafted players that are going to be entering the NBA. But there's also a group of players that were last year's rookies or rookies from two years ago, international players that you know are still trying to crack the league," said Suns general manager James Jones to media members on Thursday.
"There's a bunch of talent available for Summer League and it just makes it so you have excitement in the summer, you have a chance to evaluate young players like fresh, freshly new NBA talent as well as guys that have been through the paces a little bit. So the draft process is great for that.
"We've had some really good players come through here this summer. And I think we'll get a couple of them on our team and we'll get a chance to evaluate some of them who are playing on other teams."
Phoenix also has not signed any undrafted free agents, either.
At the moment, the Suns have just three players ready to play in Las Vegas come July, although you can expect more names to follow as we inch closer to the games which commences on July 7.
However, we do know at least three players who will play for Phoenix:
Phoenix Suns Early Summer League Roster
Forward Louis King
Age: 23
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 205 pounds
King finished as the 2021 Summer League MVP after averaging 13.5 points, five rebounds and 1.5 steals through the Sacramento Kings 5-0 run last year. He played his college ball at Oregon and initially went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft before signing a two-way deal with the Detroit Pistons before ultimately bouncing between the Kings and their G League affiliate.
King was a McDonalds All-American heading into college and made Pac-12 All-Freshman honors at Oregon. Between the Pistons and Kings, he has played in 26 NBA games with one start.
Forward Vrenz Bleijenbergh
Age: 21
Height: 6-foot-10
Weight: 209 pounds
Recently playing for G League Team Windy City Bulls, Bleijenbergh originally went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft after playing professionally in Belgium. He held offers from programs such as Arizona and UCLA but opted to play for the Antwerp Giants instead.
Before moving to the G League, he played for Real Betis in Spain.
He averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game in Belgium according to EuroBasket.com and was named the PBL's Rising Star before he moved to Spain in August 2021.
Guard Iffe Lundberg
Age: 27
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 203 pounds
Lundberg became the first Danish player to sign an NBA contract when the Suns inked him to a two-way deal in March. He attempted to enter the 2016 NBA Draft but went undrafted.
He bounced around various leagues including top divisions in Spain, Poland and Russia before landing in the US. Lundberg departed Russia after their invasion of Ukraine. He averaged 20.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the VTB in 2020-21 and won Newcomer of the Year.
Lundberg appeared in four games for Phoenix this season.
