Report: Suns Interested in Eric Gordon
The rumor mill churns at rapid pace as we inch closer to the 2022 NBA Draft, and the Phoenix Suns have seen their name involved in many potential trades, signings and more.
The latest suggestion comes from ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who did a hit on ESPN's SportsCenter and threw in the Suns as a potential landing spot for Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Suns Interest in Eric Gordon
"Also, keep an eye on the Houston Rockets. They've already done one deal this offseason. Look for a little bit of Eric Gordon's sweepstakes in play. A couple of teams I've heard interested are the Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns. Chris Paul looking for a potential reunion with his former teammate there."- ESPN's Brian Windhorst
Gordon is set to turn 34-years-old this year. He has battled injuries through the last few seasons, as his 57 games played last year was the highest since the 2018-19 season.
In 2021-22, he shot a career-high 47.5% from the field while also converting over 40% of his shots from three for the second time in his career at 41.2%.
Gordon's cap hit is set to be $19.58 million this season while his 2023-24 cap hit of $20.91 million is not guaranteed. He will be a free agent heading into the 2024 offseason.
Below is the full video where Windhorst also speaks on the Hornets potentially moving out of their top two picks among other topics involving the Atlanta Hawks and the numerous deals they have.
Is Eric Gordon a Real Possibility for Phoenix?
The Suns undoubtedly need help when it comes to scoring off the bench, and from that aspect Gordon would be solid immediate upgrade in Phoenix's push to win a title soon.
However, with the Suns aiming to keep their spending down, would Phoenix welcome Gordon's cap hit?
If the Suns could offload any deals such as Landry Shamet ($9.5 million) or Dario Saric ($9.24 million) to lessen the financial hit, that would be more reasonable. Yet it's hard to believe Houston would welcome either of those numbers in a trade back for Gordon.
In theory, Gordon's fit with the Suns would be fairly strong. However, the price isn't exactly right in this situation unless Houston is willing to take an offloaded deal from Phoenix.
