Wolves diagnose Anthony Edwards with hip pointer injury
Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is doubtful with a right hip pointer for Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz.
Edwards fell hard on his hip in the third quarter of the Wolves' come-from-behind 106-103 win over the Thunder Tuesday night. The 22-year-old stayed on his back for a few moments before eventually shooting a pair of free throws. Edwards was in visible pain when five-on-five action resumed, forcing the Wolves to call a timeout to get Edwards off the court and into the locker room for medical attention.
On Wednesday's episode of The John Krawczynski Show, Krawczynski said, "No one believes that it's going to be an extended absence for Anthony Edwards."
According to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a hip pointer is a deep bruise to the ridge of the bone on the upper outside of a person's hip, often caused by hard falls. Recovery from a hip pointer injury usually involves taking a break from activity, according to UPMC.
If Edwards were to miss Thursday's game, it would be the first time he has missed a game this season. In his career, Edwards has missed just 13 games with the Wolves going 9-4 in those games.
Minnesota sits atop the Western Conference with a 13-4 record, having won eight of their last ten games. After Thursday's game against the Jazz, Minnesota takes on Charlotte Saturday before returning to Target Center next Wednesday against the Spurs.
Replacing Edwards' team leading points (26.2) and minutes (35.1) per game will be a difficult task for head coach Chris Finch. Two straight games against teams with a combined record of 11-22 in the Jazz and Hornets makes that difficult task a little bit easier.
