Andre Iguodala Gets Honest About Winning Finals MVP Over Steph Curry

Golden State Warriors champion Andre Iguodala opened up about this debate

When Andre Iguodala won Finals MVP in 2015, many felt Steph Curry should have received the award. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games, and Curry was the only Warriors player to average at least 20 PPG in the series.

While Iguodala was tasked with defending LeBron James, Curry averaged 26.0 PPG, 6.3 APG, and 5.2 RPG, while Iguodala averaged 16.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 4.0 APG. Iguodala's impact of course goes far beyond his per game averages; however, this was a very large statistical discrepancy between he and Curry, and one that would typically not be seen for a Finals MVP.

During a recent appearance on Gil's Arena, Iguodala got honest about winning Finals MVP over Curry, saying, "I always say Steph did deserve [a Finals MVP] before the one he got. I did think he deserved one. So I always say if it was mine, cool. I know the impact I had on the game. I don't need anyone to tell me that I did. I’m cool with that, because my whole career was based on that... So I say all of that to say, man, I don’t even care, yeah Steph should have had mine. I don't really care, I think Steph should've had it."

Iguodala also shared a conversation he had with Trevor Ariza about why he deserved Finals MVP, which gave him a new perspective, but he ultimately has no problem saying that Curry should have won the award in 2015.
