Anthony Edwards Reacts to Steve Kerr Almost Benching Him
If there's one thing that the FIBA Basketball World Cup showed, it's that Anthony Edwards is an absolute star. He has superstar potential, but he almost didn't get to show it on Team USA.
In an interview with Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Edwards revealed a candid conversation he had with coach Steve Kerr about potentially coming off the bench for Team USA.
“I mean, of course I wasn’t cool with it,” Edwards said. “If that’s what it takes, I mean, I am willing to do it, but nah, I’m never cool with that. … He said Dwyane Wade came off the bench when Kobe played. I was like, all right, we don’t have a Kobe, but all right. But it was cool.”
Steve Kerr knows Anthony Edwards is a superstar and has already admitted that Edwards is "unquestionably the guy". Fortunately, both parties found a common ground, and Edwards has been able to show off what he's truly capable of. Make no mistake, Anthony Edwards is already a problem in this league, but he's capable of MVP potential in his future. There's no better way for Edwards to display his skills than the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The big question mark for Anthony Edwards is if he's able to carry the Minnesota Timberwolves to a deep playoff run. The team hasn't been able to advance past the first round during his tenure, but hopefully, he can change that.
