BREAKING: Golden State Warriors Sign New Free Agent
It was announced by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi that the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a one-year deal with free agent guard Cory Joseph. The Warriors have been in the market for guard help after losing Donte DiVincenzo, and pick up Joseph who spent the last two full seasons with the Detroit Pistons.
In 62 games with the Pistons last season, Joseph averaged 6.9 PPG and 3.5 APG in 19.8 minutes per contest. While Joseph was listed as a point guard with Detroit, he can also play off the ball, which could end up being his primary role with the fully-healthy Warriors.
Already having Steph Curry and Chris Paul, the Warriors will often not need another ball handler. Having shot 39.7% from deep in his time with the Pistons, Joseph can play off the ball next to Paul in second unit groups, or on the ball if both Curry and Paul are sitting.
The Warriors were reportedly interested in former LA Clippers guard Eric Gordon before he signed with the Phoenix Suns, but instead pick up Joseph who should play a similar role to what the Warriors would have had for Gordon. After losing DiVincenzo to the Knicks, the Warriors needed to add another guard, and do so with the addition of Joseph.
It has become clear that the Warriors have pivoted away from their two-timeline plan, as their departed youth this summer has been primarily replaced with veterans.
